The Iowa Department of Education has released new School Performance Profiles for the 2024-25 year, showing overall improvement across the state. Nearly 56 percent of Iowa schools are now rated in the top three categories, up from 46 percent last year.

Education Director McKenzie Snow credited the progress to partnerships between teachers, school leaders, and families, highlighting gains in early literacy, science proficiency, work-based learning, and attendance.

Out of 1,276 schools, 528 moved up at least one rating level. The state also reports improvement among schools needing the most support. Thirty-two of 35 schools identified for comprehensive support last year raised their scores, with some improving by more than ten percentage points.

The profiles also track schools targeted for achievement gaps among student groups. The number of targeted support schools fell by ten percent this year, dropping from 377 to 338.

The public can view individual school ratings online through the Iowa School Performance Profiles website at https://www.iaschoolperformance.gov/ECP/Home/Index
