Hampton-Dumont-CAL hosting Vinton-Shellsburg for Homecoming game Friday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team will host Vinton-Shellsburg for its district opener Friday, which is also the Homecoming game. It’ll be the first meeting between the programs.

The Bulldogs (1-2) will look to bounce back from last week’s 36-13 loss at Iowa Falls-Alden, where a hot start quickly faded. While they generated a fair amount of offense, drives stalled due to many dropped passes and other mistakes.

Vinton-Shellsburg (1-2) is two weeks removed from the program’s first win since 2022, a 42-14 triumph over Jesup in Week 2. Last week, they fell 42-0 to Benton.

“A takeaway was they don’t look like a team that’s 1-2 and struggled over the years,” Hampton-Dumont-CAL coach Cole Miller says. “They look very talented. They’ve got some big kids on the line there. They’ve got some talented receivers, their quarterback can throw the ball, and he’s really shifty too. So definitely not a team to take lightly defensively. They play that three three stack and they try to disguise pressures and confuse the defensive lineman. So yeah, they’re a very well-coached team. Coach Hadacek’s been very successful at other places. So yeah, definitely, like I said, not a team to take lightly.”

The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
