Hundreds of Students to Attend October 29th Career Fair in Hampton

Over 700 students are expected to take part in a career fair at Hampton-Dumont High School next month.

Students from Hampton-Dumont-CAL, West Fork, and new this year, students from Belmond-Klemme will take part in the career fair. This is made possible by the local college and career access network collective impact partnership planning committee,

Mary Amsbaugh is the Executive Director of the Franklin County Development Association and tells RadioOnTheGo News this is the third career fair hosted at the high school and is a great way for students to gain valuable professional insights and build professional networks.

“Well, I think the schools do a really good job of informing their students. I remember back in the day when I went to college, I’d be talking to my friends and I’d be like, ‘well, what’s your major?’ And they would tell me, I’d be like, ‘how did you even think of that?’ You know, so there’s so many opportunities out there and we have lots of opportunities here in Franklin County. So we’re really trying to get our students aware of the different opportunities. And I think a lot of times students and parents, their minds aren’t all the way open because of one job that, take Sukup Manufacturing for instance, you think of manufacturing, but there’s also marketing, engineering, there’s also receptionist stuff, unbelievable amount of opportunities and a lot of the different businesses have those as well. So we just want to bring their attention to that and hopefully, you know, if they go off to college, they’ll come back to Franklin County and call Franklin County home.”

There are roughly 16 businesses that will take part in the career fair, including United Bank and Trust Company, First Security Bank and Trust, Franklin General Hospital, OnTheGoMedia, First Bank Hampton, Fareway, Sukup Manufacturing, Iowa Specialty Clinics, Franklin REC and Mort’s Water Company. In addition, about 20 colleges will be on hand.

The career fair is Wednesday, October 29th at the Hampton-Dumont High School. Tours begin at 8:15 a.m.
