The West Fork football team will look to hunt down their first 4-0 start in program history as they host AGWSR for their homecoming game on Friday. This will be a Class A District 2 matchup and first meeting between the teams since 2022. The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
West Fork (3-0, 1-0 A-2) rushed for 319 yards to conclude non-district play with a 36-16 win at Eagle Grove last week. The Warhawks have three different backs with over 200 rushing yards and a combined 10 touchdown carries. Dax Suntken leads the way with 335 yards, Blaine Schulz has 257 yards and Tyler Fessler rushed for 214 yards. The Warhawk defense has also held opponents to 20 points or less through Week 3. Warhawk Head Coach Dan Westhoff says he feels good about the gameplan and is excited for homecoming.
“We just need to be disciplined and execute offensively. None of those pre-snap penalties, keep yourself off the turnover sheet with no interceptions and no fumbles. We need to make sure the operation’s clean. I feel good about the game plan we got in. It’s just a matter of just going out and executing it,” says Westhoff. “Excited to get back home. Excited for homecoming and all the festivities that go along with that. I think our kids have had a really good week of practice. They’ve really been focused and dialed in. We’re really excited to try to keep this thing rolling and get to 4-0 here.”
AGWSR (0-3, 0-2 A-2) fell 28-12 at home to Belmond-Klemme in district play last week. The Cougars made strides offensively surpassing production from the first two weeks with 129 passing and 116 rushing yards. Eli Holmgard rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Cougars Head Coach James Koop says the team needs to be ready to play for four quarters.
“We’re playing a team that’s 3-0, so they do not lack confidence right now. We have zero room for error as far as we’ve got to remain positive,” says Koop. “We can’t not show up for a quarter or a half like we did last week. We’ve got to make sure we’re ready to go. Then put good effort in like we did at West Hancock, for four quarters.”
AGWSR has won the last four meetings, West Fork will look for their first win in the series since 2011.
Pre-game coverage will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Sheffield.
