The #3 (1A) (Radio Iowa Poll) South Hardin football team produced 457 yards of total offense on their way to a dominant 42-16 homecoming win over Eagle Grove on Friday. The Tigers are keeping pace with last year’s team that started the season 5-0.
In the opening quarter, the Tigers on their first offensive play from scrimmage, scored on a 80 yard breakaway touchdown run by Kameron Adams to take a 7-0 lead. Adams punched in a four yard touchdown carry on the Tiger next possession to extend the lead to 14-0. The Tigers took advantage of spread coverage with an explosive 44 yard touchdown reception by Casey Williamson to go up 21-0 after one quarter. Josh Spindler weaved his way into the endzone for a 12 yard touchdown reception that gave the Tigers a 28-0 lead at the half. In the third quarter, the Tigers scored on a 37 yard strike to Jake Balvanz and one yard touchdown carry by Manning Pfantz to put the game out of reach at 42-0. The Eagles ended the shutout with 16 points in the fourth quarter but drew no closer. Head Coach Nick Eller shares how the offense got rolling in its first homecoming at their updated stadium.
“Kam ran the hardest he’s ran all year and did a great job for us at running back. Then we reeled off a bunch of touchdown passes after that, one to Josh Spindler, Casey Williamson and Jake Balvanz. Then Manny Pfantz topped it off with a touchdown run. Just a really good variety. Everyone’s getting the ball and moving the ball around. We’ve got to be that way the rest of this season, if we’re going to be at our best. Everyone’s got to be contributing, so they can’t just focus on one guy,” says Eller. “It’s really fun to see the whole community rallying behind us and coming together for an event on Friday nights at our home field. We’ve got new stuff out at our field now, that really seems like it’s kind of pulled everything together. It’s really a fun atmosphere. You want to put a good show on for them and the boys did that tonight. I’m really proud of them.”
Welch had 206 passing yards and three touchdowns. Adams had 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Balvanz had a receiving touchdown. Pfantz had a rushing touchdown. Sawyer Kane had 7.5 tackles to lead the Tigers.
South Hardin (4-0, 1-0 1A-3) will visit Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in district play in Week 5.
