The Belmond-Klemme football team with a season high 301 rushing yards delivered a 45-0 win over Lake Mills on homecoming on Friday. It was the Broncos first home win since 2020.
The Broncos galloped out to a 12-0 advantage in the first quarter with a 17 yard touchdown carry by Braeden Wright and four yard touchdown run by Jaime Steffenson. In the second quarter, the Broncos pulled away with a fourth and goal seven yard touchdown reception by Jackson Johanns, a six yard touchdown reception by Wright and a four yard rushing touchdown by Wright to take a 32-0 lead into the half. In the third quarter, Kysen Lamb found the endzone on an 11 yard touchdown reception and Steffenson sprinted 33 yards for his second touchdown of the night to put the Broncos up 45-0. Head Coach Josh Faaborg highlights the necessity of incorporating the run in their offense more.
“The kids up front that don’t hit the stat sheet had a great night. They moved bodies very effectively up front and opened up some big holes. The running backs, when they got the opportunity took full advantage of it. Our focus going in was on a much more balanced attack,” says Faaborg. “Obviously we’ve had some big success through the air, with the weapons that we have throwing the football. Late into the year, if we want to be a playoff team and make a playoff run, we’re going to have to be able to put it on the ground. The kids came out, understood the challenge ahead and executed. Appreciate and thank our fans, our community for coming out and supporting these kids who worked really hard. It was a really fun night.”
Brody Heifner went 10/10 with 83 yards passing and three touchdowns. Wright had 100 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Steffenson had two touchdowns and Lamb had one touchdown. Liam Fournier had 4.5 tackles to lead the Broncos.
Belmond-Klemme (2-2, 2-1 A-2) will travel to BCLUW in district action in Week 5.
