Former Iowa Falls Mayor Gene Newgaard announced he is seeking another term in office.

In a Facebook post, Newgaard said he filed nomination papers last week after encouragement from community members. He highlighted past accomplishments during his time as mayor, including revitalizing the downtown business district, bringing in new businesses and creating the Iowa Falls EMS ambulance service.

Looking ahead, Newgaard said he wants to focus on maintaining services under state budget constraints, improving access to affordable housing, expanding recreation opportunities and ensuring the city’s ambulance service remains strong as discussions continue on a countywide essential services tax.

He emphasized his commitment to working with the city council, staff and residents to make Iowa Falls attractive to both citizens and employers. He also pledged to remain accessible and open to public input.

Newgaard previously served as mayor from January 2014 until December 2021.

The city election is Nov. 4.
