The AGWSR volleyball team will host South Hardin for a NICL-West match Tuesday, which will air on RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
Coming off their first win of the season over East Marshall on Tuesday, September 16, the Cougars (4-13, 1-1 NICL-W) put together a 3-2 outing at Saturday’s tournament at Gladbrook-Reinbeck. They had lost 12 straight to begin the season.
“They just need to fight for it,” AGWSR coach Kayla Miller says. “I feel like once they get in their heads, it’s hard to come back from that. So just staying focused, you want that. Go for it. Push hard. Work as a team. And that’s just something that I’m going to keep reminding them constantly, every day, every minute. Just work together and look what you can do.”
Miller says top hitters Brylea Metzgar and Elise Olson are finding their stride, helping the team string together wins.
“We worked on them connecting with Claire Culver a lot too and it showed they they’re working, they’re telling each other what they need, they’re running different plays, we’re getting more aggressive at the net, and that’s what we need to be.”
The Tigers (7-8, 1-1 NICL-W) have had a week since their last match, a 3-2 loss to #10 (1A) Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Senior Nora Warburton has stepped up to lead the team with two kills per set, including 18 in last week’s match.
