The latest Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report shows significant rainfall across parts of the state last week, reducing the days suitable for fieldwork to just 4.9. Farmers in North Central Iowa, including areas like Webster and Wright counties, have seen delays as wet conditions halted progress on fall harvests.
Corn and soybean crops are maturing rapidly, with 66% of corn already matured, and soybeans seeing 62% of plants dropping leaves. However, these crops are now facing a race against time, as forecasted drier conditions will help farmers catch up on harvest in the coming days.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig also used this week’s report to remind farmers and all Iowans to prioritize safety during National Farm Safety and Health Week, urging the community to look after their mental well-being as well.
