Governor Kim Reynolds has set Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, as the date for a special election in Iowa House District 7.
The election follows the resignation of Representative Mike Sexton, who was appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as Director for USDA Rural Development in Iowa. Sexton was first elected to the Iowa House in 2014 and had chaired the House Agriculture Committee since 2022.
House District 7 includes Calhoun, Pocahontas, Sac and part of Webster counties.
Under Iowa law, the governor has authority to set a special election to fill legislative vacancies.
