Hampton Council Discusses Poultry Permit Process, Dog Registration

hampton-downtown-3

At the recent Hampton City Council workshop meeting, resident Jennifer Gruelke requested permission to keep poultry on her property in southern Hampton. Gruelke said she was recently approached by a police officer about chickens at her residence. The council discussed possible ordinance changes and asked her to submit a detailed written request with a map. Council members also noted the presence of many chickens already being kept illegally in town, prompting plans to discuss this at a future workshop.

The council reviewed the dog registration process and discussed waiving registration fees. City Manager Ron Dunt was asked to draft a 12-month fee moratorium for consideration at Thursday’s meeting.

Dunt also presented a proposed 28E agreement with Franklin County for a new brush site located south of town on Olive Avenue, with plans to add it to Thursday’s agenda.

Other topics included expanding the Image of Pride to a year-round program, and no-parking rules for both sides of the 300 block of 3rd Ave SE, which will be drafted and placed on a future agenda.
