The AGWSR football team will be looking for its first win of the season when they travel to Greene to play North Butler on Friday.
The Cougars are coming off last week’s 7-6 loss to West Fork, a game where quarterback Landon Dennis and wide receiver Bo Starr had breakout performances. Dennis threw for 209 yards and Starr had 124 yards receiving, both season highs. Defensively, the team allowed its fewest points of the season.
This will be the second straight week the Cougars have been scheduled as an opponent for a homecoming game. Head Coach Koop says his team has a chance to spoil the celebration.
“We’ll have the kids prepared. We’re going to look at the different things they do formationally and stuff like that and try to find out what tendencies they have and see if we can use those to our advantage. It’s going to be our second week in a row playing in a homecoming game, so we’re going to try real hard to play spoiler.”
North Butler (2-2) is coming off a loss to Nashua-Plainfield. The Bearcats have had solid offensive production from quarterback Brody Wangsness and running back Tucker Pecha. Defensively, the team has allowed just 11 points per game on average. Head Coach Jordan Vanderloop says his team can’t take the Cougars lightly.
“We have to come out and make sure we do our job and don’t overlook them because if we do then it could be trouble because like I said they’re very talented. They can hurt you in a couple different ways so we need to make sure we come play our type of football and have that bend don’t break attitude.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
