The West Fork volleyball team (7-6, 1-3 TIC-East) is entering a welcome week long break from competition as they near an upcoming playoff push in the weeks ahead. The time away will provide the Warhawks an opportunity to recharge and reconnect following a three match losing slide to #3 (1A) Saint Ansgar, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Osage entering the break. Senior Outside Hitter Abby Schoning shares what she as a captain is striving to help the team achieve.
“That our whole team improves this season, so we can continue to build the program. I want to be a leader in that. I want to help this program to become what I know it can be,” says Schoning. “We have to trust each other is the big thing. Communication, trust, energy, those are three things that are going to make this season a great one. I know I can trust this team to continue to grow in that aspect.”
Head Coach Emily Greimann provides an outlook on the team’s plans to reconnect and improve during the week.
“I think we’re definitely going to spend some time team bonding and reconnecting with our teammates. Then getting right down to the nitty-gritty basics of the game. Work on maybe some specifics that some girls need to work on and just really give them that time where they can ask the questions,” says Greimann. “We can go hard in practice but also work through some situations and just kind of do it all. I’m excited for them to be able to reconnect with each other and work on what we need to work on.”
Schoning is the team’s top attacker with 70 kills at 1.8 per set. Zada Huff has managed the Warhawk offense with 105 assists. Madisyn Johnson has kept scoring chances alive with a team leading 103 digs.
West Fork will return to action by hosting North Butler in Top of Iowa East play on Tuesday, September 30.
