Kolbon Hoppenworth was named the king, and Ella Buttjer was named the queen at Thursday’s Aplington-Parkersburg Homecoming Coronation inside the auditorium.
Buttjer participates in cross country, track & field, soccer, the fall musical and spring play, FFA, student government and contest speech. She says her favorite theme day of the week is Spirit Day, where everyone shows off their school pride.
“I like Friday when everyone’s wearing like their fun jeans and their Falcon clothes, and seeing all the elementary kids at the parade and spirit dance,” Buttjer says.
Hoppenworth is involved in football, golf, baseball, contest speech, the fall musical and spring play, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and archery. He shares his advice to underclassmen.
“I would say getting involved and then also knowing what your identity is in,” Hoppenworth says. “Because like if your identity is in sports and stuff, one injury can take that all away. So like me personally, my identity is in Christ and I’m a child of God. So nothing could take that away from me. That’s why high school is so fun for me.”
The evening concluded with the powder puff football game.
Friday’s events include the parade at 1:45 p.m., the community tailgate downtown from 3:00 to 5:00, and the football game against Sumner-Fredericksburg at 7:00. The week will conclude with Saturday’s Homecoming Dance.
