
Grundy Center senior Emerson Vokes was the boys individual champion, highlighting local action at Thursday’s Sam Iverson Cross Country Invitational hosted by Grundy Center.
The reigning Class 2A champion took the race in 16:14, 49 seconds faster than second place. Teammate Jayce Fryslie also medaled, placing sixth in 18:07. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Trevan Thomas led the Falcons with an 11th place finish, and Jonah Vanderwilt led South Hardin with a 13th place finish in a season-best 19:07.
In the team race, Grundy Center was second, Aplington-Parkersburg was third and South Hardin was 11th.
The Grundy Center girls placed third, Aplington-Parkersburg was fifth and South Hardin was 10th. Individually, Grundy Center’s Grace Storjohann placed third, joining teammate Evelyn Geerdes, who placed eighth. Charlee Endelman led the Falcons by placing ninth, and Mya Wilaby led South Hardin with a 13th place finish in a season-best 22:20.
