The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team was as efficient as possible in Friday’s 63-19 win at Oelwein, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
The Bulldogs scored on all nine possessions, quickly putting the game out of reach. The teams traded scores throughout the first four drives, but the Bulldog defense began making stops after that. Entering the game with 117 rushing yards on the season, Jacob Mahler had 17 carries for 131 yards and four scores.
Ryder Strother, Carter Arends and Caden Woods each added rushing scores. Blaek Burmester threw touchdown passes to Aaden Keehn and Brody Strother.
“We played really well on both sides of the ball,” Head Coach Cole Miller says. “They were able to weather the storm and stick with us. They were the ones that put up points first. It was encouraging to see our guys respond and not get discouraged. They have an explosive offense, and we knew that. We had to weather that storm and we scored every time we touched the ball tonight, so that’s super efficient. That’s exactly what we wanted to do. We got down to the goal line a handful of different times and we were able to punch it in. That emphasis throughout the week really paid off.”
Hunter Rieken had an interception, and the defense registered many tackles for loss, sacks, and quarterback hurries. Burmester passed for 150 yards and was 8/13.
In their next action, the Bulldogs will be at Denver in Week 6 on 104.9 KLMJ.
