The Aplington-Parkersburg football team never looked back from a strong start, and defeated Sumner-Fredericksburg 48-7 Friday at Ed Thomas Field.
The Falcons rushed for seven scores, five of which came in the first half for a 35-0 halftime lead, putting the running clock rule in effect. Mason Pruisner had over 100 rushing yards for the third straight game, with eight carries for 153 yards and three scores. Benny Waller had 79 rushing yards with two scores. Creyton Eberhart and Wes Shirk each added rushing touchdowns to round out the scoring.
The team recovered three fumbles and had 10 tackles for loss. Head Coach Jeff Pikna says the defensive effort, along with the crisp offense, made for a strong outing.
“It was definitely one of our better games all year, especially the tackling,” Pikna says. “We had a couple different guys repping the five front, which we haven’t done all year. Cooper Mulder came in and stepped up. First game playing varsity, really just absolutely played as hard as he possibly could for us, did everything we asked for him, flew around, led the team in tackles for loss tonight. Effort from guys like that really made tonight special. And I think the guys just all came together and they wanted to do the same thing. Every time you do that and take care of the ball, the rest of work itself out.”
The Falcons will return to action next week at Jesup, which’ll air on RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
