Harvest is moving along across the RadioOnTheGo News area with promising early results.
Eddie Steffen, regional operations manager with Landus, says both soybeans and corn are coming in with favorable moisture levels.
“Most recently we’re seeing soybean moisture ranges coming in anywhere between 9.5 to 11.5 percent moisture. That’s drying down really well. We’re seeing a lot of corn come in right where we like to see it, anywhere from 14.5, which is real dry, to 15.5. But the days of really wet corn seem to be behind us. Those moistures are all looking really good.”
As of Monday, Sept. 29, Steffen says harvest progress is starting to gain momentum.
“As we sit here on the 29th of September in the northeast region of Iowa, we’ve brought in about 13 percent of the soybeans expected and about 7 percent of the corn expected. So a little slow start, but we’re really picking up over the weekend and we expect a big, big week here. So those numbers should improve dramatically by next Monday.”
This week’s weather in the area looks very favorable for harvest, especially through the first half of the week. Monday through Thursday will be warm, dry, and mostly sunny, with highs in the low to mid-80s and little chance of rain, creating excellent conditions for combining. Friday continues the trend with sunshine and highs near the upper 80s.
