West Fork senior Kaitlyn Burgin has committed to play rugby at Iowa Central. Since picking up the sport as a sophomore, she has made rapid progress. Though hesitant at first, Burgin decided to attend a practice with a friend and quickly embraced the game. Burgin currently plays for the Mason City Riverhawks and tells RadioOnTheGo Sports that her commitment to Iowa Central marks a significant step in her athletic career.
“It means a lot. I’ve been pushing to this point and it feels good to finally get here. But I know that it’s not like, it’s just a start. Like it’s not the, like I’ve made it point. It’s just the start of where I can get to in the future. And it really just means a lot.”
Drawing from her own experiences, Burgin offers advice to other athletes who hope to continue competing beyond high school.
“Just don’t give up. Don’t give up where things get hard because you never know how close you are to actually making it.”
During her time at West Fork, she has participated in wrestling and softball. She’ll join the Tritons for the 2026 season.
