Sunday around 1:00 a.m. the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department was called out on the report of a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 65 and 255th Street, or County Road C13, in Sheffield.

Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd tells RadioOnTheGo News a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jacqualyn Lyman of Sheffield, was traveling west on 255th Street. As her vehicle approached the stop sign at the intersection, it struck the rear of a 2010 Ford Taurus, driven by Joseph Neff of Sheffield, who was slowing to a stop. Lyman’s vehicle pushed Neff’s vehicle through the intersection across Highway 65 into the northwest corner of the intersection.

Another vehicle, a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a minor, was traveling south on Highway 65 and attempted to turn east onto 255th Street. As they attempted to turn, the collision between Lyman and Neff occurred. After the collision, Lyman attempted to maneuver around the collision, and as a result, rolled at least once in the roadway and struck the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu, causing significant damage to the front end of the Malibu. The Malibu later came to rest in the south ditch of 255th Street, east of Highway 65.

All those involved in the accident were transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment and have since been released.

Lyman was later charged with failure to stop with an assured distance and open container of alcohol. An investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department continues awaiting results for potential charges of an OWI for Lyman. All vehicles sustained damages in excess of $10,000 each.

Assisting at the scene were the Sheffield Police Department, Franklin General Ambulance, Sheffield EMS and the Sheffield Fire Department.
