Eight-man football will have the spotlight Thursday night when Clarksville hosts Belle Plaine in a non-district game that’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
The Indians (4-1) have been on cruise control offensively in the last three games. They racked up 348 rushing yards in last week’s 54-14 win at Colo-Nesco. They scored 78 and 76 points in the previous two games against North Tama and GMG, while rushing for over 400 yards both nights. Head Coach Darren Bohlen says he hopes the passing game can become more effective, having completed just two of 15 attempts on the season.
“We’ve got to continue doing what we’ve done the first couple of weeks, and that’s being able to run the ball and control it,” Bohlen says. “And I keep saying this, but we’ve got to be able to throw the ball a little bit too. And I think last week we were able to run the ball outside a little bit more than what we have been, which is good. And now we just got to be able to add the little passes to that. So we’re a little bit more diverse.”
Quarterback Nathan Moon has accounted for a majority of the production, with 914 of the team’s 1,353 rushing yards.
Belle Plaine (2-3) has won consecutive district games over English Valleys and WACO, which were both close games throughout. Quarterback Aidan Timm has gained most of the team’s yards through the air and on the ground, a style Bohlen says has caused problems.
“What’s been a problem for us this year is when they have a good quarterback that can run the ball and be a little shifty, he’s exactly the type of quarterback that has been causing us problems. We do have to have a spy on him and maybe two spies on him because last week we didn’t do a very good job with it. We’ve just got to be able to figure that out.”
It’ll be the third straight year the teams will meet, having split the last two. Pregame coverage will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7:00.
