The West Fork football team will host Belmond-Klemme in Week 6 Friday, where they’ll each look to solidify playoff positioning.
At 3-1 in A District 2, the Broncos have clinched a playoff berth, the program’s first since 2017. Head Coach Josh Faaborg says with two district games left, they still have an opportunity to clinch a top-two spot in the standings and the home playoff game that comes with it.
“In the last couple of years, we’ve been fighting for a playoff berth,” Faaborg says. “So I think the stress is off us. We kind of put that behind us. Obviously celebrated that. But now we just need to focus on a district title, one game at a time, and just continue to move up the ranks. And hopefully in a few weeks, we’re sitting here with a home playoff berth.”
The Broncos are coming off a 46-20 win at BCLUW, where they were balanced in their rushes and passes, including 230 passing yards by quarterback Brody Heifner.
West Fork Coach Dan Westhoff says defending the passing game will be a focal point.
“There’s a lot of similarities, I think, from the strides that they have made from last year to this year,” Westhoff says. “We’ve made some of those similar strides. It’s going to be really good game, really good matchup. There’s a lot of similarities in terms of the passing threat that they present. The run game’s a little different. There’s a different style there. They’re more spread out pretty consistently. They’re in gun most of the night. It’s a little bit different challenge defensively.”
At 2-1 in district play, the Warhawks need a win to clinch a playoff berth. They’re coming off last week’s 28-21 loss at Newman Catholic, where a -1 turnover margin proved costly. They’ll look to capitalize on the run game, where senior Dax Suntken is halfway to 1,000 yards for the season.
It’ll start at 7:00 p.m.
