The Iowa Falls-Alden football team opened district play last week with a 48-14 home loss to West Delaware. The Cadets (2-3) fell behind early but pulled within 10 points in the first half before struggling to keep pace, as West Delaware outscored them 20-7 in the second half to seal the win.
This week, the Cadets will travel to Charles City to face the Comets. Despite the setback, Coach Walkingstick says his team remains resilient and determined as district play continues.
“We just keep going back and going to the drawing board and we’re gonna do that,” Walkingstick says. “We’re gonna keep our composure and we’re gonna keep working hard. Each week we’re gonna battle, it doesn’t matter who it is—we’re gonna play our best and we’re gonna try our hardest. We’re gonna keep coming back at you. I’m proud of our guys this week and we gotta keep coming back and getting ready for a tough district, but that’s part of it.”
Charles City (3-2) also dropped its district opener last week, falling to Benton 41-7. The Bobcats took control early and held the Comets scoreless until the third quarter.
Both teams will be looking for their first district win Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
