Iowa Valley Community College District is partnering once again with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst’s office to preserve the personal stories of veterans living at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. The second filming session for the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project is set for Tuesday, October 7.
This session will focus on recording interviews with 6 to 7 combat veterans, ensuring their service and sacrifice are documented for future generations. Iowa Valley’s video team, led by district videographer Joshua Benda, will film the interviews, which are being conducted by students—many of them veterans themselves.
Senator Ernst, a combat veteran, says she’s proud to support the project and grateful to those sharing their stories. Iowa Valley President Dr. Anne Howsare (Howz-air) Boyens called the collaboration an important way to honor veterans and preserve their legacies.
The recorded interviews will become part of the Veterans History Project archive at the Library of Congress and will be available to the public online. The initial session earlier this year was considered a strong success.
