A law enforcement pursuit ended in a serious head-on crash late Friday (10/3/25) night near Hudson, injuring two people — including a local state lawmaker. According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened at around 10:30 p.m. when 24-year-old Cory DeVries of Grundy Center was driving south in the northbound lane of Highway 63 near the 1800 block of Sergeant Road, fleeing law enforcement. His 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo collided head-on with a fully marked Iowa State Patrol SUV with emergency lights activated.
That State Patrol vehicle was being operated by Patrolman Joshua Meggers of Cedar Falls, who also serves as State Representative in his second term representing House District 54 which includes all of Hardin and Grundy Counties as well as Cedar Falls and other parts of western Black Hawk County. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and taken to medical facilities to be treated for injuries. DeVries was airlifted to Iowa City; Meggers was taken to MercyOne Waterloo by Hudson ambulance.
Hudson EMS, Hudson Fire, and deputies from Grundy and Black Hawk counties assisted. RadioOnTheGo News has reached out to the State Patrol for more details on what led to the pursuit and updates on the conditions of those involved. No further information has been released at this time.
