The Iowa Falls Fire Department recently made a $5,000 donation to the Iowa Firefighters Memorial, located along I-80 near Coralville.. The Iowa Firefighters Memorial committee began fundraising for a wall expansion this summer and is looking to raise $300,000 for the project.

The memorial, dedicated in 1994, provides a location where all Iowa firefighters who have served their communities, or given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, can have their names engraved on a stone wall for remembrance at a very sacred location.

Denny Barrick has been a member of the Iowa Falls Fire Department for 38 years and tells RadioOnTheGo News their donation is a way to say thank you to area fire departments for their help after the Scenic City hosted the Iowa Firefighters Association Convention from 2022 to 2024.

“So what we did here on the Iowa Falls Fire Department was donate $5,000 towards that memorial and what it was for was to honor and thank all the other towns for their help and participation when we had the convention here for three years in a row and there’s a lot of other towns that helped us get things ready as far as setting up the campgrounds and a bunch of stuff like that. And then we had other people at, man, like our tent where people came in and that and helped us sign in campers. Just a lot of other people that help us get started with it.”

Over $125,000 has been raised for the wall expansion project. More information on the memorial and how you can donate can be found below.
