Cadets to be tested at Clear Lake Friday

The Iowa Falls-Alden football team will have its toughest test of the season so far when it travels to #1 (3A) Clear Lake for a 3A District 2 matchup Friday. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

The Cadets (3-3, 1-1 3A-2) have surpassed the win total of each of the last three seasons, and are one spot behind the final RPI playoff spot. Head Coach Eric Walkingstick says the team is excited to be involved in a game of such magnitude.

“You’ve got to want these games, because these are opportunities to play the best,” Walkingstick says. “And it’s one of the ones where we’re excited. We want that chance and we want to see what we can do out there. And for us to get into a good place both now and down the road, we need to have these games to kind of test our mettle and see where we’re at. So excited for the opportunity and can’t wait to play.”

They’re coming off last week’s 37-21 win over Charles City for their first district win.

The Lions (6-0, 2-0 3A-2) have only had one game decided by one possession. They’ve dominated in their district games by beating Independence 43-0 and Benton 35-7. They’ve hung their hat on a balanced offense, with nearly identical yards passing and rushing.

“The biggest thing for us, every one of our guys have to do their jobs. Most weeks you look through film and you try to find a weakness or you find a place that you can exploit. The tough part for us with them, they’re very athletic in a lot of places. So we’re gonna have to play very well. We know that they can spread the ball in different places both offensively and then defensively. We have to go in knowing those things and try to take advantage of things that we see and work with it and go from there.”

Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7:30.
