The Aplington-Parkersburg football team got back on track by defeating Hudson 27-14 Friday at Ed Thomas Field, handing the district-leading Pirates their first district loss.
Early in the first quarter, Benny Waller found Devan Eberhart for a 38-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead. The Falcons doubled the lead on a Waller sneak in the second. With seconds remaining until halftime, Kolbon Hoppenworth made a sliding catch in the end zone, and it was 21-0 at the half.
After giving up a score and missing a field goal in the third, the Falcons added cushion with a short run by Mason Pruisner to finish the scoring in the fourth. Head Coach Jeff Pikna says the team bounced back by playing complimentary football.
“Just getting back to what we know, we live and die by the run game,” Pikna says. “We were trying to do some things to lighten the box up a little bit, kind of get a little more unpredictable, which worked out really well in our favor tonight. Really worked really hard to play it all week and the kids bought in, so it worked out real well.”
The Falcons will close the regular season in Week 8 at Columbus Catholic with a playoff spot on the line.
