The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team was held scoreless in the second half, and fell 36-7 to Roland-Story Friday in Week 7. With the win, the Norsemen clinched the 2A District 4 title.
Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, a long run by Joseph Powers set up a short score by Brody Strother, and the Bulldogs went up 7-6. Roland-Story scored before halftime for a 14-7 lead, and they never looked back. The Norsemen tacked on three additional touchdowns in the second half, and the Bulldog offense couldn’t generate any more points. Head Coach Cole Miller says Roland-Story provided a tough challenge both athletically and schematically.
“We played a pretty good first half,” Miller says. “They scored with not a lot of time left in the second quarter to go up. Otherwise, we were leading almost heading into half 7-6. They have uh a really good running back and a really good wide receiver, and they were just able to go to those guys. And then couple of their other role players were making some plays too. Their defense was doing just enough to keep our guys off balance and made it really hard for reads and blocks. And you got to tip your cap to those guys. They played really, really well and had some good players. Our kids battled for four quarters. They just were able to hit some shot plays and those shots led to the final outcome.”
The Bulldogs will return to action in Week 8 by hosting Dike-New Hartford on 104.9 KLMJ and YouTube. A win by Hampton-Dumont-CAL would clinch a playoff spot.
