The Ackley City Council met in regular session October 8th and approved the agenda and consent items, including reports from city departments and financial records.
Key updates included ongoing maintenance and infrastructure projects. A new furnace is being installed at the ambulance shed, and bids for city hall basement windows and the Depot roof are expected at the November meeting. The council approved a $19,000 bid from Affordable Tree Service for Zone 1 ash tree removal and a $6,000 offer for old WWTP aerators.
A nuisance case was resolved, granting a resident 30 days to finish cleanup after one unsafe building was already removed. Several annual financial reports and resolutions, including those related to sewer bond amendments and legal services, were approved unanimously.
Concerns were raised about improper installation of utility poles near city infrastructure. Guidance was given to address potential liability. The Franklin Street project moved ahead, and council authorized up to $30,000 for engineering services.
Other updates included issues with well #2, maintenance at lift stations, preparations for winter and approval of a payment for $37,525 to Williams Underground Service for work along State Street.
