The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced on its Facebook page that K9 Skye has received a new bullet- and stab-resistant vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
The vest was sponsored by Don and Misty Fike of Galesburg, Illinois, and is embroidered with the message, “Born to Love – Trained to Serve – Loyal Always.”
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 2009 with the mission to provide lifesaving protective gear and support to law enforcement dogs across the United States. Each vest is U.S.-made, custom-fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice.
Since its founding, the organization has donated more than 6,200 vests valued at over $6.9 million to K9 units in all 50 states.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. relies entirely on private and corporate donations. A single vest sponsorship costs $1,050, with each vest valued at around $1,800 and weighing between 4 and 5 pounds.
