
A contested mayoral race in Iowa Falls highlights this year’s city/school election in Hardin County.
Incumbent Mayor Mike Emerson is being challenged by former mayor, Gene Newgaard. Emerson was first elected in 2021 when he defeated then mayor Newgaard, by a vote count of 562-372. Emerson was reelected in 2023 when he defeated two challengers; Dominick Rocky Damiano and Newgaard. On the Iowa Falls City Council, four people are running for two seats; Tamra Kjormoe, Jody Lewis Anderson, Steven L. Klein and Gumaro Valencia.
In Eldora, Mayor David Dunn is not seeking reelection. Denny Barnard is the lone name on the ballot for Eldora Mayor. On the city council, four people are running for three seats; Wesley Dale Landis, Carey Calloway Morton, Bev Jones and Scott Swartz.
In New Providence, four people are running for three seats on the city council, they are Darin Tool, Lynn Cave, Theresa Landis-Aucoin and Melissa Berends.
On the Alden and Iowa Falls school boards, four people are running for two seats. In Alden, they are Jessica Christensen, Steven Lyon, Lucy Rodriguez and Samone Whitfield. On the Iowa Falls School Board, Kaitlyn Hoversten, Joel Weeks, David D. Moore II and Karla Damiano are running for two seats.
