
The North Iowa Cedar League Cross Country Meet will take place Thursday at Hickory Grove Golf Course in Oelwein.
In the girls race, Hudson and Sumner-Fredericksburg enter as possible favorites for the team title, each with three runners in the top 10 of the leaderboard based on season-best times. Coming off a fourth place finish in last year’s meet, Grundy Center senior Grace Storjohann holds the league’s best time at 19:10, 19 seconds faster than Hudson’s Mollie Hansen. Grundy Center’s Evelyn Geerdes enters with the sixth-fastest time in the league.
In the boys race, Grundy Center is a favorite for the team title with three runners entering with top-10 times. Reigning conference and Class 2A state champion Emerson Vokes has a top time of 15:07, which leads the NICL and Class 2A. That mark is two minutes faster than the second-best time in the league, which belongs to Sawyer Spence of Union. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Trevan Thomas is a favorite to medal, entering with the sixth-best time in the league. He’s joined in the top-10 leaderboard by teammate Owen Price in eighth. Dike-New Hartford sophomore Sully O’Neill has the league’s seventh-fastest time, and teammate McKennen Lindaman has the 10th-fastest time.
The varsity girls race will start at 3:50 p.m., followed by the boys race at 4:20.
