State Representative Shannon Latham of Sheffield was recently named as executive director of the Iowa FFA Foundation.

As executive director, Latham will lead the Iowa FFA Foundation in forging stronger partnerships, expanding opportunities for donors to invest in tomorrow’s leaders and ensuring agricultural education continues to thrive.

Latham tells RadioOnTheGo News her passion for FFA began while in high school in Greene.

“So it really feels like a full circle moment for me. Actually, early on in my career, I did some public relations for the Iowa FFA Enrichment Center and was involved in planning the groundbreaking event here for the building. So fast forward, now I’ve been named the executive director. So it really is an honor to be in this position. My main objective will be cultivating partnerships with other stakeholders, helping raise money that will fund programs for the Iowa FFA association the agricultural education teachers, alumni associations, and then helping with the FFA enrichment center as well.”

Latham says as a State Representative, one of the highlights of each legislative session is hosting FFA chapters at the State Capitol.

“I was involved in FFA. I’m a charter member of the North Butler FFA as I graduated from Greene High School. So my FFA advisor had such an impact on my career path. I know that when I’m talking with other FFA members when they come visit us at the Capitol, that that FFA advisor can just have such a profound impact on their lives. So it’s pretty amazing the impact those students can have. And I always really enjoy listening. I feel like I can learn from them as well.”

The Iowa FFA Foundation was founded in 1986 with the goal of connecting donors with opportunities to support students, educators and programs in agricultural education.
