Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Volleyball Opens Postseason Against Alta-Aurelia

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball team returns to action Monday night when it travels to Alta to face Alta-Aurelia in Class 2A Region 7 postseason play.

The Cowgirls enter the match with a 6-19 record, while the Warriors come in at 15-9. CGD finished regular season play on a four-match losing skid, while Alta-Aurelia closed with an eight-match win streak, sweeping its last four opponents.

The Cowgirls are led offensively by Ella Fineran and Harper Nerlien. Fineran leads the team with 94 kills, while Nerlien has recorded 288 assists this season.

Defensively, Quinn Brooks leads the Cowgirls’ back row with 262 digs, while Fineran anchors the front line with 25 blocks.

On the other side of the net, the Warriors are led offensively by Hayden Berkland and Kandence Langschwager. Berkland leads Alta-Aurelia with 211 kills, while Langschwager has distributed 492 assists.

Allie Stites anchors the back row with 238 digs, while Berkland controls the net with a team-high 30 blocks.

First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner will advance to face Aplington-Parkersburg on Oct. 22.
