The season will be on the line for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team when it travels to #10 (3A) Roland-Story for Tuesday’s 3A Region 5 first round match. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.
The Bulldogs (4-22) enter on an eight-match losing streak, and have had a season where they’ve had trouble finishing points with a rather inexperienced roster. Taking on one of the better teams in Class 3A, Head Coach Sarah Miller says they’ll embrace the underdog role.
“We have absolutely nothing to lose right now,” Miller says. “So I think we just treat every point like a game winning point. Make sure that we take care of our job and our position. We have to take care of that setter dump because that’s gonna be on us every once in a while, and then especially the tip. We know what we have to do. It’s just being able to perform our responsibilities and then making sure that we communicate over the top, we stay very energetic, high energy, and we have to definitely play as a unit.”
The Norsemen (32-7) have won 18 straight matches, winning the Heart of Iowa Conference title. They’ve hit a sharp .218 on the season with a team-high 3.2 kills per set by Brookelyn Jondle. As a team, they have the fourth-most kills and third-most assists in 3A. When the teams met on Monday, September 29, Roland-Story won 21-19, 21-8.
Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the first serve at 7:00. The winner will advance to Thursday’s regional semifinal against either Williamsburg or PCM.
