The 14th annual Model Railroad Show and Sale sponsored by the North Central Iowa Model Railroad Club is Sunday.

Brian Stevens is a member of the North Central Iowa Model Railroad Club and tells RadioOnTheGo News this annual event helps the organization raise money and promote a hobby.

“There were some people, just local people that were interested in model trains. Paul Shelton had his train store downtown and so between he and Gene Elphic and a couple guys we got together and decided well let’s make a model train layout and we found the depot available out at the fairgrounds and we fixed it up and that was our home and we did that for about a year and then decided well let’s have a train show.”

There will be several vendors on hand with merchandise to see and purchase.

“We rent tables, and right now we’ve got about 91 tables that are rented out, which is going to fill the floor of the convention center. And we have people that regularly go to these and sell objects. We have people that just have a few extra things they want to get rid of. They sell not only model trains, model trains of all scales, but they also sell memorabilia for trains, scenery items, and all kinds of different things. There’s also a group from Marshalltown comes up, and they’ll have a layout in one of the rooms so people can look at that too. So if you’re not interested in buying model trains there are still things that you can look at out there.”

The Model Railroad Show and Sale is Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Convention Center in Hampton. Admission is $5. Kids 10 and under are free with a paid adult. For more information, you can call 641-456-1998 or email eastsidetrains@gmail.com.
