The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team couldn’t keep up with the high-powered offense of #10 (3A) Roland-Story, and fell 3-0 in Tuesday’s 3A Region 5 first round match, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The set scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-7.

In a match where the Norsemen exerted their dominance, the match was decided by wider margins with each passing set. In the first two, the Bulldogs held their own while the Norsemen gradually gained separation with a balanced offensive attack. But Roland-Story raced out to a major lead in set 3, and the Bulldogs never recovered. Head Coach Sarah Miller says the team did what it could against a very talented opponent.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” Miller says. “I always ask the girls, you know, just take one point at a time. It’s all that you can do in the situation. That’s a very, very good volleyball team. They have a lot of leadership over there, just a lot of good skills, but there were moments where I was so proud of the things that we were doing. Clearly we got in our heads a little bit. I think we were probably a little bit intimidated, but overall, I was super proud of the growth that we’ve made this season. The biggest thing is, I hate to see them all go, which I’m not losing anyone, which is fantastic. So we get this crew back next year, and I just hope that they’re hungry for that drive to stay dedicated and driven of getting better in the offseason.”

Madison Heilskov led the Bulldogs with seven kills.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s season has ended at 4-23. They had no seniors on the roster.
