The Clarksville City Council met in regular session Monday night, October 20, at City Hall.

Mayor Heuer addressed a citizen complaint about vacant buildings in the city. He noted the difficulty in pursuing action without written complaints, which are required for any court proceedings. He suggested the city consider hiring an inspector to review abandoned or uninhabited homes before they are rented to ensure they are safe to occupy.

Department updates included a reminder from the fire department about its annual meeting in November and a report from Police Chief Barry Mackey noting 133 calls for service in September.

Two building permits were reviewed and approved, including a wire fence installation at 104 North Elizabeth and a special permit to correct a setback issue involving a previously approved project on the Doty property.

Maintenance Supervisor Jared Brunner reported that 5-ton weight restriction signs will be installed this week.

The council tabled discussion on yield sign placement until more members could be present.

Dean Zelle presented options for the city’s health insurance renewal, noting that higher claims this year will likely lead to increased costs. The council reviewed a possible switch to an HRA plan and will revisit the issue at its next meeting.
