For the second consecutive season, the #2 (1A) Grundy Center football team will host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the first round of the playoffs Friday.

The Spartans (8-0) will put their 47-game win streak on the line after a fourth straight undefeated regular season, earning the title of 1A District 3. Led by quarterback Judd Jirovsky, the Spartans have been crisp throughout the season while putting together one of the better rushing attacks in Class 1A.

The Rockets (3-5) are the 4-seed of 1A District 6, and fell 27-24 to Durant in the regular season finale, where no points were scored in the second half. The Spartans will look to contain running back Zane Mullenix, who has rushed for 1,058 yards to account for over half of the team’s total rushing.

Grundy Center won last year’s meeting 55-16. The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m., and the winner will advance to next week’s second round against an opponent to be determined.
