Grassley Pushes FTC to Investigate ‘The Knot,’ Urges End to Shutdown

Remarks by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa “Whistleblower Appreciation Day” Wednesday, July 30, 2025

Iowa’s senior U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley — a native of Butler County — is urging the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate The Knot, a popular national wedding planning website and online business marketplace. Grassley says his office has received hundreds of complaints alleging the company failed to honor contracts, misled vendors, and engaged in deceptive business practices.

He says the website’s alleged behavior has hurt small business owners who depend on the platform for visibility and income. Grassley called on the FTC to act quickly, saying small businesses shouldn’t be left vulnerable to fraud by large online platforms.

In his weekly Capitol Hill Report, Grassley also renewed his criticism of what he calls the “Schumer Shutdown” — referring to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York — as the federal government shutdown enters its fourth week. He urged Democrats to support bipartisan funding bills to reopen the government and restore pay to federal workers.
