The Hampton Public Library on Tuesday announced it is one of about 1,280 Carnegie Libraries across the United States that will receive a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
More than a century after philanthropist Andrew Carnegie helped fund the construction of 1,681 libraries nationwide, the Hampton Library still serves the community today.
Dame Louise Richardson, President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York released the following statement to all the Carnegie libraries still in existence.
“On behalf of the foundation, thank you for the many ways you serve your communities. My hope is that this gift serves as a recognition of your commitment, our founder’s legacy, and the importance of this milestone in our nation’s history”
The Hampton Public Library Board of Trustees will determine how the money will spent at a later date.
