The #2 (2A) Dike-New Hartford volleyball team will look to hunt down their sixth straight state tournament appearance when they take on #15 (2A) Treynor in the Class 2A Region 2 Final on Wednesday. The match will be played at Ankeny High School and will air on 99 The Wave.
Dike-New Hartford (37-9) advanced with sweeps over South Central Calhoun in the quarterfinal and South Hardin in the semifinal. The Wolverines have attacked at a high success rate this postseason, averaging 15 kills per set as a team. Abby Jensen and Keely Kauten have paced the team, averaging 10 kills or more a match. Head Coach Diane Harms says this is where the hard work pays off.
“If we can just execute what we can control, take care of the ball and do what we’re able to do, it will put us in a good spot. Obviously, everyone’s a great team at this point in time, but you just got to execute, play within yourself and take care of your game,” says Harms. “They’ve worked so hard. This is where that hard work pays off. It’s great when you get to see them have fun and enjoy playing and being with each other.”
Treynor (27-11) advanced with sweeps over MVAOCOU in the quarterfinal and Westwood in the semifinal. Nora Konz with 3.3 kills and Rylee Hemmingsen with 2.4 kills per set lead the Cardinals front line. The Cardinals have had success from the service line with 273 service aces on the season, at a rate of three per set.
This will be the first ever meeting between the teams.
Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by the first serve at 7:00 p.m. in Ankeny.
