AGWSR Looks to Build Consistency Heading Into Next Season

The AGWSR Cougars football team experienced a season of ups and downs, finishing with a 1-5 district record and an overall record of 1-7. Despite the team’s record, Head Coach James Koop says the effort and determination his players showed each week didn’t go unnoticed.

“One of the good things about this season is all of our opponents in district play have complimented me after the game about how hard our kids play and that they don’t quit,” says Koop.

Throughout the season, the Cougars showed glimpses of growth, but inconsistent play hindered the team’s record.

“There’s so many things this year on offense and defense where we were offensively, we were a block away from bigger things happening than what they did,” says Koop. “And on defense, you know, we were just inches away from getting off the field or getting that stop we needed to turn the tide too. So, that’s the biggest thing we have to improve before next year is our inconsistency. I mean, because as I told the kids all season, if we play at the highest level we can play at consistently, I think more good things would have happened than they did this Fall.

Quarterback Landon Dennis threw for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns, ranking third in Class A District 2 in both categories. Receiver Bo Starr finished fourth in the district with 495 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions.

On defense, Brady Abbas led the district with 69 tackles, ranking fifth overall in Class A statewide.

The Cougars will look to build on this year’s experience and turn their effort into more consistent results next season.
