Costumes, candy and plenty of smiles will fill the halls of Franklin Country View and Franklin General Assisted Living in Hampton. The facility is hosting trick-or-treating this Saturday, giving residents a chance to enjoy the holiday right alongside the kids.

Brooke Gillespie is the Nurse Manager of Assisted Living at Franklin Country View and tells RadioOnTheGo News it’s an event that everyone looks forward to every Halloween.

“The residents adore children and being able to see them in their costumes, such a treat for them and for us. The staff also love the event. Everyone really gets into the spirit of Halloween here. Different departments throughout the hospital and Senior Living do themed costumes and we decorate the facilities to get ready for the big day and the residents help kind of with that. We even down here in Senior Living on Franklin Country View and Assisted Living, we urge our residents to join with us in our themed costumes and they get really excited about that too. So it’s just a lot of fun.”

Bonnie Miller has been a resident at Franklin Country View for nearly 10 years and says the Halloween fun brings plenty of smiles — for visitors and for those who call the facility home.

“The residents appreciate it, I don’t think we tell the staff enough how we really appreciate what they do for us. And they look like they enjoy it, is what they’ve been saying. We just have fun. It’s just one big happy family. I just can’t say that enough. the children, when the children come through and you’re going to ask what kind of costumes they like, it’s the ones where we can see the children’s faces. Their faces, they just glow. And we sit there and compliment them. And they just gleam. They don’t even really care how much candy you give them. It’s a wonderful community thing.”

Trick-or-treating at Franklin Country View and Franklin General Assisted Living will be Saturday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Hot dogs, chips and water will be provided to the first 100 people that attend.
