City and School Elections Bring Key Decisions Across Area

Voters across the area head to the polls Tuesday (Nov. 4) for city and school elections featuring local races and bond proposals. In Dumont, a reminder that ballots will be cast at the Dumont EMS Building instead of the usual American Legion Hall due to accessibility issues caused by road construction along Main Street.

In Hampton, the City Council At-Large race features Jeanne (Jean) Faye who is being opposed by a write-in campaign from Lisa Hill. In Hampton’s City Council Ward 3, incumbent Bill Holmstrom is challenged by a write-in campaign by current At-Large Councilman Patrick Palmer who had previously announced he would not seek re-election to the council.

Iowa Falls voters will see a mayoral rematch between incumbent Mike Emerson and former mayor Gene Newgaard, who cites resident concerns as his motivation to run again. Emerson highlights fiscal stability as a key strength.

School bond measures are also appearing on ballots. The Aplington-Parkersburg School District seeks approval for $16.3 million for safety and HVAC upgrades, while the AGWSR District is asking votes for $12.76 million for facility improvements, including classrooms and bus barns. Both measures were revised after narrowly failing in previous elections.

Polling locations are open to vote in person from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
