The 2025 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team raised the bar this season. The Cowboys finished 6-4, posting their best season since 2014 and earning their first playoff win since 2011.
Senior Joel Meier led the Cowboys’ offense with 1,082 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Fellow senior Selvin Gonzalez added 997 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground, while sophomore Colin Sesker contributed 415 yards and six touchdowns. CGD finished first in Class 1A in total rushing yards with 2,796.
Defensively, the Cowboys also delivered a standout season. The unit compiled 19 sacks, 58 tackles for loss, 12 fumble recoveries and 11 interceptions — all marks that ranked in the top 10 in Class 1A, including a Class 1A-best in fumble recoveries.
Head Coach Caleb Vogel says the positives from this season and moving forward will be to build on the team’s never wavering mindset.
“A big thing all year is don’t ever give up, don’t ever quit, because you never know what’s going to happen,” says Vogel.
Vogel says the Cowboys growth on the field this season, mirrors the teams’ effort in the classroom and around the community.
“We have a great group of kids,” says Vogel. “They work hard all the time on and off the field and in all the sports that they’re in. They’re polite in the classroom. They get after it in the classroom. They’re just very, very coachable kids. And especially some of them seniors are just tremendous and they’re going to be missed big time. What was accomplished this year is just only a small piece of what’s to come. And I’m super excited for the future with these guys.”
The team will graduate 9 seniors in the off-season.
