The National Weather Service says central Iowa could see hazardous conditions today as gusty winds and low humidity increase the risk of grass or field fires. Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning.

Forecasters also warn that a major pattern change is on the way this weekend. Accumulating snow is possible Saturday, mainly across northern Iowa, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures. Roads could become slick late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The Iowa Environmental Mesonet adds that temperatures may only reach the 30s by Sunday, a dramatic shift after this week’s mild weather with highs in the 60s and 70s. Officials urge Iowans to stay alert for updated forecasts and prepare for winterlike travel conditions as the weekend approaches.
