The Hampton City Council will meet Monday for a workshop session to consider community requests and city updates.

Resident Mary Villanueva of 1013 4th Street SE plans to address the council regarding the denial of her request to keep chickens on her property. The council approved similar requests from Butch and Jennifer Gruelke and Sarah Kolb during the October 23rd meeting, but voted to deny the request from Villanueva, citing she had not been present at meetings to talk about her request.

Aquatic Center Manager Emileigh Eilderts will present 2025 statistics and provide an update on pool operations. Hampton Tree Board Member Dick Lukensmeyer will request approval of new tree planting plans for the upcoming year.

Council members will also discuss the Mayor’s recent veto of Ordinance 407. At the Hampton City Council’s October 23rd meeting, the Council approved the ordinance on a 4-2 vote. That measure was intended to amend Hampton Municipal Code to prohibit on-street parking on the 300 block of 3rd Avenue Southeast. This was part of a broader effort to establish new no-parking zones on both sides of 3rd Avenue Southeast between 3rd and 4th Streets, as well as on 3rd Street Southwest from Central Avenue West to 1st Avenue Southwest. Earlier this week, Hampton Mayor Steve Birdsall stated he believes more discussion is needed to ensure the city has the right ordinance in place for the neighborhood after receiving a complaint from a resident who lives along 3rd Avenue Southeast.

The council will also consider moving the next council workshop meeting to Thursday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m.

Monday’s meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at city hall and is available on the city’s YouTube page.
