Franklin County Farm Bureau and Franklin County Extension and Outreach recently teamed up to give local preschoolers a hands-on look at farm life.

Students in the four-year-old preschool class at CAL Elementary and the Head Start program in Hampton participated in a classroom egg-hatching project. The Farm Bureau provided fertilized eggs, incubators, feed, cages, and all the supplies needed for students to experience each stage of chick development.

The young learners observed egg growth using charts, practiced candling to see inside the eggs, and watched their chicks hatch. Organizers say the project offered a fun way to explore embryology.
